LaVene Weldon, age 93, passed away on March 17th, 2022, in Indianapolis, Indiana. LaVene was born on September 14th, 1928, to Charles Alvin and Dulcie (Hurst) Bagwell in Crittenden County, Kentucky.

She graduated from Marion High School in Marion, Kentucky in 1946. Following graduation, she was proud of her work as a civil servant at Camp Breckinridge in Morganfield, KY. In 1954, after a 5-year courtship, she married the love of her life, John Weldon, in a double wedding with her twin sister Pauline, and fiancé. Over the next 11 years, LaVene and John had three daughters. In 1969, she decided to go back to work “part time” and spent 16 years with Baynham’s Shoe Company, followed by 20 years with Interprop Management Company until her retirement, in 2005, at the age of 76.

LaVene is survived by her loving daughters Paula Williams (John); Lynda McCollum (Chuck); and Jane Weldon (Yvonne); grandchildren, Brandon Gregory (Aleah), Zachary McCollum, Andrea Johnson (Derek), and Chelsea Vannoni (Kyle); great grandchildren, Josephine Kate Johnson, Giovanni Byron and Annabella Grace Vannoni, and Blake John Gregory. Later in life, as fate and love would have it, her grandchildren included Jared Williams (Patty) Carolyn, Harry and Ellie; Katie Niles (Casey) River and Ridley; Jessica Dedmond, Veyda and Vanna; Jake, Lizy, Zach, Sam, Katie and Grace Offill; nieces and nephews Dana Samson, Dwight Monroe, Greg Dyer (Ellen), Tammy Riley (Mike), and their families.

She is preceded in death, by her parents and husband, her sisters, Evelyn Monroe (James) and Pauline Dyer, and nieces, Diane Weldon Todd, and Teresa Dyer.

A celebration of LaVene’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home, 1800 St. George Rd., Evansville, Indiana, with burial to follow. Visitation will be held on Friday, March, 25, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Tour de Komen at tourdekomen.org
