Miss Joanne was a one of a kind lady. We first met her when we became neighbors. She would come out in the mornings to sit, drink coffee & chat with me almost daily. When she would talk, you would be drawn in by her words, she was a lady who spoke about the truths in life & many life lessons. She always made sure she talked about her love for GOD & you could tell she meant it.She was a determined gal who wouldn’t let nothing stop her when she set her mind out to do something..RIP Miss Joanne!! We love you Tanesha!! My condolences to the family on the loss of a great woman…
    Much love & many prayers,
    The Grimes Family…

I met Joanne in the mid 80’s. I always thought of her as a woman of strength with a quiet sweet spirit. Little did we know that about 10 years later, we would share a grandson who we both love dearly.

A mother’s love never ends. You will always have it in the things she taught you and the wisdom she imparted to you. Remember the love and hold it close to your hearts!

My deepest sympathy to Lyron , Duran, and the rest of the family. God in heaven will give you peace and comfort as you mourn your loss. Love you,
    Jennifer Douglas

Doris Joanne Douglas, 64, went home to meet Jesus on January 8, 2021. She was born on January 26, 1956 to Damon and Esther Miller in Evansville, Indiana.

There’s no question that Joanne was one of a kind. She carried herself with an undeniable energy and swag. People were just drawn to her. Joanne, being a strong woman of faith, attended Nazarene Baptist Church for many years; but more recently spent her Sunday mornings at Grace Pointe Church. She very much enjoyed going to church and loved singing during worship. She loved singing all kinds of music; anything that could feed the soul. Joanne took joy in cooking as well; especially when she was putting together a meal for her family. Being an outgoing people person, Joanne took to Facebook. She loved connecting with friends, both new and old; as well as taking and posting selfies! She was also involved with Habitat for Humanity. Her vibrance and liveliness drew everyone to her. She had this way about her that let you know you could tell her anything; but also know that her responses were going to be real and truthful. Joanne took no excuses, she addressed every problem in a real way. She’s always been a source of strength for her family and friends. You could count on her every time; she’d give you the shirt off her back. Joanne spent a lot of time focused on her family. She was a mama that prayed for her kids and grandkids; always believing in the Lord for their health and safety. The time she spent with her family was so important to her, as it has been to them. Anyone who’s ever known Joanne should consider themselves very blessed.

Joanne is survived by her children, Troy (Andrea Smith) Miller, Lyron Miller, LaCova Douglas, Amir Morgan, and Tanesha Douglas; her grand-babies, Alyssa, Rashaun, Duran, Elijah, Jameson, Amira, Jameson R., and Andre; two sisters, Carol Sue Langley and Karen Swope; two brothers, Brian Miller and Vaughn Eric (Mona) Johnson; her nieces and nephews including Addrianne Miles, Alexis and Apriel Miller, Krissy Bronaugh Tidwell, Alan Fingers, Shaun (Emily) Swope, and Timothy Swope Sr.; several great nieces and nephews; and her very dear friend, Rebecca Douglas.

Preceding Joanne in death is her parents; her brothers, Phil and Damond “Mony” Miller; and her sister, Brenda Fingers.
