Donald Bunton Gibbs, 84, passed away on January 20th, 2021 in Rockport, Indiana. He was born on November 1st, 1936 to his parents, Ada (Loftis) Gibbs-Belt and Marvin Gibbs in Kentucky.
Donald, also lovingly known as “Papaw Gibbs”, was a kind and caring soul. He served our country in the United States Navy and proudly so. After that he worked at Whirlpool for over 40 years. Donald was also an active member of the union hall, Local 808 where he held several elected positions. He enjoyed wood working and creating things with his hands. As a man of faith, he attended First Baptist Church in Rockport, Indiana. He was a very generous person and was always donating to many organizations. He had three beloved pets over the years, Mouse, Mr. T. and T2 and his family would joke that he loved them more than anything else. He loved his family above all else and he will be deeply missed by them.
Donald is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Janice Gibbs; his parents, Ada (Loftis) Gibbs-Belt and Marvin Gibbs; his stepfather, Trice Belt; his siblings, Harold Gibbs, Freddie Gibbs, Donnie Belt, Shirley Belt, Nellie Briggs, James Edward Horning, Juanita Boggs, and Bill Gibbs; his nephews, Dennis Belt and David Brian Eilers; and his pets, Mouse and Mr. T.
Donald is survived by; his children, Cindy (Bob) Lawrence, Jennifer (Eric) Metcalf, and Marvin (Stacy) Gibbs; his grandchildren, Brooke (Josh) King, Chaz (Sierra) Mackenna Metcalf, Kaylee Metcalf, Danielle Lawrence, Reagan Lawrence, Crystal (Eric) Baumberger, Nicole (Bobby), and Bobby (Ronee); his siblings; Bernice (Don) Watson, Mildred Madden, Nancy (John) Gibson, Brenda Copsy, Carolyn Koon; many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws; and his great grandchildren, Samuel, Gunner, Chance, Willow, Kierstin, Lexi, and Camber.
He is also survived by his four-legged best friend, T2. T2 will continue to be taken care of by Brooke and Josh and his new sister, Marvel.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Sunday, January 24th, 2021 from 11-2pm with service to follow at 2pm. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Rockport, Indiana. Service will be livestreamed via Zoom.US. Please call Sunset at 812-477-5316 for the login information.
