Willie Carol Mooney departed his earthly life on January 27th, 2023. He was born in Providence, KY on September 14th, 1948 to the late Van Mooney, Sr. and Birdie Mae (Marable) Mooney. He obtained his education through the public school system in Providence, KY and later received his higher education through Lockyear Business School.

Willie Carol, as he was known to many, accepted Christ at an early age, as he was raised in a household with strong Christian values. Willie Carol later joined the United States Army, where he became a Medical Corpsman. During his service in Fort Hood, TX he earned a National Defense Service Medal and sharpshooter Medal. He was a long-time member of Memorial Baptist Church, where he participated in Couples in Action Ministry and Male Chorus.

Willie Carol eventually relocated to Evansville, IN where he worked as an employee for Alcoa Warrick Operations, ResCare Inc. and the Evansville State Hospital, from where he retired after 26 years. Willie Carol was such a loveable and joyous person that he had decided early on he wanted to share his life with others. So, he became a foster parent, sharing his love and touching the lives of other children within the community over the course of several years. He truly loved people, often striking up conversations with many of whom he did not know, as he never met a stranger. He was always so upbeat, often joking, singing or dancing to make others smile. He was also an avid UK fan and would often be seen sporting his team’s memorabilia.

In addition to his parents, Willie Carol was preceded in death by brothers:  Robert “Tom Tom,” John Wesley and Van Mooney Jr.; Sisters: Arsula (Mooney) Johnson, Iris Hopson, and Diloris Mooney and bonus son, Anthony Hale.

Willie Carol leaves behind cherished memories to his loving and devoted wife of 18 years, JoAnn  Mooney, who he affectionately referred to as “the wind beneath his wings;” as well as children, Russell Mooney and Toshaneke Obajowo (Adebayo) of Pooler, GA. Willie Carol was the greatest Stepdad ever and leaves behind the following bonus children: LaVoda Hawes (Byron,)  Brigitte Watson (Bobby) of Florissant, MO, Lorenzo , Lawrence (Tina,) Orlando I, Dino (Tequia) of Las Vegas, NV and Cosima Barrett; grandchildren, Ramonté Johnson (Jamyra) of Hopkinsville, KY, Tariah Jefferson of Pooler, GA, Danya Thomas, Taszjanae Mooney of Michigan and Jaylen Hearst of Texas; 2 Great-Grandchildren: Heavenly and Kaiis; sisters: First Lady Sylestine Mooney-Hutcherson and Doris Ann Morrow both of Providence, KY and brother, Monte Chris Lindle of Providence, KY. He also had bonus grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family who loved him dearly.

Willie Carol will be in the care of Sunset Funeral Home (1800 St George Rd, Evansville, IN 47711), with services and visitation being held with Memorial Baptist Church (605 Canal St, Evansville, IN, 47713). Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM on February 10th, 2023. Burial and Military Rights will follow at Cumberland Hills Presbyterian Cemetery in Providence, Kentucky. Masks Required.
