L. “Gene” Wilkinson, 73, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, January 15, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born on October 14, 1945 to Gerald and Hilma Wilkinson in Evansville, Indiana.
Gene was a great provider and worker. He retired from Alcoa in 2010. He was an active member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and loved attending his Sunday School class. He loved to make people smile. One of his finest attributes was his sense of humor and his love of practical jokes. He enjoyed playing golf and watching all sorts of sports including the Indy 500 races and was an avid IU basketball fan. He loved his dogs, Callie and Sadie. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Gene is survived by his wife of 52 years Diane Wilkinson; his children Chris Wilkinson, Stephanie (John) Nosko, and Drew (Ashley) Wilkinson; his grandchildren Mason and Kenzie Wilkinson, Dustin, Joshua, Brandon, Matthew, Nicholas, and Daniel Nosko and Braelynn Wilkinson; his sister Bettye Marchal; brother-in-law Forest Marchal; his sister-in-law Carolyn Wilkinson; and several nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Jim and Jerry Wilkinson; and his sister-in-law Jeanine Wilkinson.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 19th at Sunset Funeral Home. Pastor Alan Scott will be officiating the service. A burial will directly follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Gateway ICU and Select for their kind and compassionate care.
