“I Am Wonderful”

Johnnie Frederick “Fred” Owens, 75, passed through Heaven’s gates on January 13, 2022.  He was born in Evansville, Indiana on May 30, 1946, to James Everett and Violet May (Peach) Owens.

After high school, Fred enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served for several years.  He went on to be a delivery driver for Associated Courier, where he delivered radioactive medical materials for over 30 years.  Fred was loyal to the Marines and to work, but nothing compared to the fierce dedication he had to his friends and family.  Fred never met a stranger and would often strike up conversations with people wherever he went, only to leave them in stitches from the jokes he told or feeling better after having shared his faith.  He embodied the Fruits of the Spirit, but was humble enough to say that he could always be better.  Fred wasn’t afraid to say “I love you” and made sure that you knew he meant it.  Love wasn’t just a word to him, it’s what gave his life meaning.  The legacy he leaves behind are but the fruits of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control, but by the grace of God.

He will be missed by his wife Donna, his children Buddy (Tonia) Owens, Eddie Owens, Melanie Owens and Chad Owens; his step-children Ada, Danny, Bud, and Matt; his grand, children Joshua (Jamie) Owens, Jacob (Haley) Owens, Amber (Tim) Caze, Hayley Owens, Thomas Owens, Trevor Owens, Tyler Owens, Paige (Sean) Flahardy, Cody Owens, Brody Owens, and Sam Owens; his 14 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Mary Capps, Malcom Owens, and Lois (Bruce) Renshaw; and many more loving family members.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Freda Smith; his brother, William Owens; and his grand-daughter, Krista Small.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made payable to Sunset Funeral Home to assist with expenses.

Services will be held at Sunset on Saturday January 29th with visitation from 10am to 11am with service at 11am.
