Jeannetta Johnson was born July 4, 1929 in Evansville, IN to the late John Schaeffer and Hattie Hannon.

On June 18, 2019 Jeannetta peacefully departed this life with the love of her family surrounding her.

Jeannetta always had a zest for life and was considered everyone’s “grandma” whether they came for a minute or stayed for a while they always left being a part of the family. More than anything she made sure to create memories through her handdrawn paintings, handmade t-shirts, family bingo, family dinners, and handmade gifts.

She retired from CAPE after working with them for over 30 yrs. She was awarded Black Woman of the Year award in 1978 for service in the area of community service. Grandmother of the year award in 1980 in headstart. And Chairperson for Child Development for outstanding efforts and contribution in 1977-1978 & 1978-1979

She was a major influence on creating family tradition and memories by decorating for holidays, getting all the grandchildren together to bake, sew, paint and weekend sleepovers. Although she never had much money for expensive gifts or trips she always made something big out of nothing.

She was a lifetime member of St Johns Catholic Church until they’re closing & became a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Celie Johnson. Her three brothers Curtis, Alfred, and Albert. Her four sisters, Hattie Mae, Ora Lee, Velvet, and Johnnie. Her two sons Steven, and Nathaniel. She leaves to cherish her children Robert (Sabrina), Celie, Charlie (Cheryl), Tom (Lois), Tim (Geneva), Linda (Robert), Susan (McKinney), and two special daughters Barbara Moss and Sheila Johnson. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

This is a sad day for our family, but even though Jeannetta is not with us in physical form, she will always be with us in our hearts and spirits. Although her death is unexpected we can take comfort in knowing Jeannetta is experiencing God’s promise of eternal life in his kingdom. We as a family are celebrating Jeannetta’s life and she will always be loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 12:30 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1800 St. George Rd., Evansville, IN 47711 with Father Ted Temple officiating. There will be a public visitation from 11:30 AM until the time of service on Thursday, June 27th at Sunset.

God looked around his garden and He found an empty space

He then look down upon this earth and saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.

Gods garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain.

He knew that you would never get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough and hills were hard to climb

So He closed your weary eyelids, and whispered “peace be thine”.

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone.

For part of us went with you the day God called you home.
