James (Mule Skinner) D. Sweitzer, 77, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2022. He was born on September 10, 1945 to Clement and Margaret “Ellie” (Melton) Sweitzer in Murphysboro, Illinois.

James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. On June 4, 1994, he married the love of his life, Shirley, in Evansville, Indiana. He devoted 64 years as a Heavy Machine Operator, he was known as ‘Mule Skinner’ as his handle on the radios. Trucks, trains, and tractors were his passions. He enjoyed playing Farm Simulator, he was an expert. He was a member of Anna-Jonesboro Masonic Lodge #111, American Legion post #265, and VFW. He loved his family fiercely and would light up surrounded by his loved ones. He was humble, kind, and generous. Jim was an amazing man and will be missed greatly by all.

James is survived by his loving wife Shirley M. Sweitzer; children Angie, Patti, and Vicki Sweitzer, Jackie Williams, Tanya (Jason) Williams, Barbie Morris, Shelia (Gary) Alvis; several grandchildren; siblings Mike Sweitzer, Darrell Sweitzer, and Sherry Sweitzer; and numerous extended family members. James was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 12pm until the time of service at 1pm on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Shepherd Chapel Mausoleum.
