My uncle George is a part of many of my childhood memories. When I was a little girl, I thought he was the tallest man in the world. Always smiling and laughing. His jolly spirit will be missed.

George S. Thurman, 89, passed away on June 18, 2019. He was born on December 9, 1929 to Raymond and Neala Ann Thurman in Evansville, Indiana.
George was an outdoorsman. He loved to hunt birds, his favorites being pheasant and quail. He was a dirt track racer for over 17 years and liked to race at Tri-State Speedway. He graduated from Bosse High School and a fan of Castle football. George served his country in the US Army and was a Koren War Vet. He was a retired mechanic from Alcoa. He was also a member of Brown Chapel Ministries. George was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
George is survived by his wife of 25 years Arnella Thurman; his children Tammy Schwitz, Julie (Novice) Smith, and Dan Thurman (Neya Rooney); his step-children Dawna Jones, Brian Bohrer, Rhonda (Rick) Woolsey, Ross Collins; 16 grandchildren from both sides of his family; 21 great-grandchildren from both sides of the family; 1 great-great grandchild; his sister-in-law Nina Thurman; and several loving nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; and his children David Michael Thurman, Georgia Thurman, Jess R Thurman, Scott Thurman; and his brothers Jess Thurman and Dan Riggs.
A graveside service will be Thursday, June 27th at 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park.
